Tre Stewart led Jacksonville State to a 31-21 victory over Liberty with an impressive 232 rushing yards and four touchdowns, extending their win streak to five games. The Gamecocks (5-3, 4-0 Conference USA) ended Liberty’s 12-game home win streak, the nation’s fifth-longest, while handing the Flames (5-2, 3-2) back-to-back losses for the first time since the end of the 2022 season.
Stewart has been a force lately, scoring 12 touchdowns over the last four games. This latest outing marked the third-highest single-game rushing total in Jacksonville State history. After Liberty narrowed the gap to 24-21, they attempted a fourth-and-1 at Jacksonville State’s 17-yard line, but quarterback Kaidon Salter’s mishandled snap ended the drive.
Jacksonville State’s defense made a crucial play when Geimere Latimer intercepted Salter with under four minutes left, returning it to the 1-yard line. Stewart sealed the game with his fourth rushing score moments later.
The Gamecocks tallied 363 yards on the ground, marking their fourth consecutive game with 300 or more rushing yards. Quarterback Tyler Huff contributed with 130 rushing yards on 20 carries and 95 passing yards. Liberty’s Quinton Cooley rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to stop Jacksonville State’s momentum.
