In a game marked by resilience, Louisville football turned a slow start into a thrilling 31-27 comeback victory over Boston College at Alumni Stadium. Struggling early, the Cardinals found their rhythm in the second half, powered by standout performances from wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks and running back Isaac Brown.
The Cardinals’ offense started slow, failing to score on multiple drives and turning the ball over twice in the first half. Boston College capitalized on Louisville’s early missteps, building a 20-0 lead thanks to an interception and a fumble recovery by defensive end Quintayvious Hutchins. Eagles quarterback Thomas Castellanos and running back Treshaun Ward kept the momentum, with Ward contributing 64 rushing yards and 81 receiving yards to propel Boston College’s lead to 27-10 midway through the third quarter.
But Louisville’s second-half comeback began with a 10-play, 76-yard touchdown drive just before halftime, setting the stage for an energized response. Head coach Jeff Brohm adjusted the game plan to focus on key playmakers, resulting in Brooks’ 120-yard receiving night on eight catches and Brown’s 85 yards rushing with two touchdowns.
“We tried spreading the ball early, but when it mattered, we targeted our main guys,” Brohm said. “They delivered exactly when we needed them.”
Quarterback Tyler Shough, who finished with 333 passing yards and two touchdowns, found his rhythm in the second half. His accuracy shone as he connected with Nate Kurisky on a go-ahead 6-yard touchdown pass with just over seven minutes remaining, giving Louisville its first lead, 31-27. Brown added his second touchdown on an 18-yard run, which sparked a run of four consecutive scoring drives.
Louisville’s defense also stepped up in the second half, allowing just seven points after halftime. They forced Boston College into multiple punts and a turnover on downs, with cornerback Tayon Holloway breaking up a critical pass in the end zone to prevent a late score.
“As a defense, we fed off our energy tonight,” said Louisville defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte, who recorded a season-high nine tackles, including 2.5 for loss. “We know what we’re capable of, and we showed that confidence tonight.”
The Cardinals’ performance preserved their position in the ACC race as they face a challenging final stretch, starting with a road game at ninth-ranked Clemson.
