Since Notre Dame secured Lucedale (Miss.) George County’s highly-regarded four-star quarterback Deuce Knight in September 2023, other teams have been eager to sway the standout signal-caller. Programs like Ole Miss, Alabama, and others have tried to lure him away from the Fighting Irish, pitching the appeal of staying closer to home. Despite the attention, Knight remains committed to Notre Dame while keeping communication lines open with other schools.
Knight has been vocal about his commitment to Notre Dame, actively recruiting for them and recently participating in the Irish Invasion camp alongside fellow commits and top prospects. With six months until National Signing Day in December, On3 recruiting insider Phillip Dukes believes Notre Dame is in a good position to retain him.
“I’m going with stick. When I talk to him, Deuce Knight is a great kid. I think Notre Dame provides so much that he likes off the field. Does he take a visit? Possibly. I know that’s pretty much taboo when it comes to a quarterback committed to Notre Dame. But I think he’s the type of guy that I can’t see Notre Dame saying, ‘Well we’ll drop you.’ I think he may take a visit [elsewhere] to confirm he’s making the right decision.”

While several teams are still pursuing Knight, including Alabama, Colorado, and Ole Miss, Knight maintains an open mindset regarding visits and his recruitment process. At the On3 Elite Series event discussing NIL and life after football, Knight emphasized his strong affinity for Notre Dame while acknowledging Ole Miss as a close contender.
“Ole Miss has long been in the mix. They’ve got Coach Kiffin, that’s all they really need. He’s proven that he scores a lot of points, he wins a lot of games and then he’s not scared to start a true freshman at quarterback … the experience him and Coach Weiss have, just being around big-time guys.”

Despite the allure of other programs, Knight affirms his commitment to Notre Dame, praising their consistent support and familial treatment throughout his recruitment journey. As he prepares for his senior season, Knight remains focused on his pledge to the Fighting Irish, making any potential flip from his commitment a challenging prospect for competing schools.
