Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy and six of his former teammates got their NFL dreams realized during the league’s draft. McCarthy went 10th overall to Minnesota, and six more Wolverines heard their names called on Night Two, during rounds two and three.
Day 2 of the NFL Draft began by recognizing Michigan’s 2024 national championship team. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell honored the team as they paraded with the CFP trophy.
In round two, Kris Jenkins was picked 49th by Cincinnati, and his teammate Mike Sainristil went next to Washington.
Linebacker Junior Colson will play under his former college coach Jim Harbaugh again. Harbaugh, now with the Los Angeles Chargers, selected Colson 69th overall in round three. Harbaugh celebrated the selection by singing the Michigan fight song, ‘Hail to the Victors,’ after the selection was announced.
The last three Wolverines were drafted one after the other in the third round: Blake Corum by the Los Angeles Rams, Roman Wilson by Seattle, and Zak Zinter by Cleveland.
Now the only question remains is whether or not Michigan can break Georgia’s 2022 record of 15 draft selections. The draft concludes Saturday at noon with four more rounds to go.
